HB BR 101

LOL, I know it’s time to update the blog when my brother calls and asks if everything is OK, since I have not updated in a few days!
So, let’s start where I left off…….

Monday Elvis and I departed Frisco, CO.  Worst hotel of the trip.  IF YOU ARE EVER IN FRISCO, CO…….DON’T STAY AT THE SNOWSHOE MOTEL!  You would have thunk I had learned my leson last big trip about asking if they had A/C!  NOT!  The rooms had these sagging beds they looked like hammocks with bedspreads on them.  The place was also filthy.  The windows had a window fan sitting ( I thought) on the ledge.  The great thing about being on the first floor, everyone can look into your room as they walk by.  Finally, I was like WTF, I pulled off my shorts and just keep working in my boxers!  “You want to look, I want to show you!”  And then, everytime checkin boy came out to smoke…..right into the room thanks to the CWFCS (central widow fan cooling system)  It finally got time to go to bed and I decided I would move the fan to the dresser and pull the curtains (I figured I had already made a name for myself!)

There I went “figuring.”  The fans were nailed and wired to the ledge and the windows!  No moving them.  So, your choices were to sleep with the curtains open to try and stay cool. (I sleep naked just in case you were wondering) or pull the curtains and get no air flow!  What to do, what to do!  I pulled the curtains and looped them over the fan.  I’m not that big of pervert!

We pulled out around 10AM to let it warm up a bit.  The only saving grace to the bad hotel was my friend did tell me about Loveland Pass over toward Evergreen where I was meeting my buddy Bob for lunch. It was a gorgeous ride.  If in the area, must ride!

Enroute to Evergreen, Elvis and I decided to ride to the top of Mt Evans!  I wish I could upload the video to this, but I won’t be able to until I get home.  Over 14,000′ high, no guard rails and narrow!

(REMEMBER…CLICK ON PIC TO ENLARGE)

NO GUARD RAILS

DON’T LET HIM FOOL YOU…HE TOOK HIS JACKET OFF FOR THE PIC!

Check back after I get back home and can do some video editing!

We made it up and back unscathed!  Hit the loop over toward Evergreen to have lunch with Bob.  I forgot to add that Elvis had decided to head East after lunch.  My plans did not include heading home for another week or so.  Met my old friend Bob Sugg for lunch at the Little Bear Biker Bar in Evergreen.  If ever in the area, stop by!  Had lunch, Bob offered to host Elvis and I for the night.  I decided to accept the offer, but Elvis headed on out.  Talked to him later and he was lucky enough to hook up with three other bikers from Charlotte in the KS area and was going to ride the rest of the way in with them.  I was glad for his safety.  Made me feel a lot better.

I followed Bob home to his gorgeous house in the mountains.  Bob was one of the first Captains I ever flew with at the airlines and is the one who taught me how to fly fish.  His wife still flies for Delta. Bob and Cathy have one son in the Naval Academy and one applying now for both the Naval and AF Academy.  It was a good short day and Bob even did my laundry.  More about HB BR 101 later!

Got up and headed for South Fork, CO.  Just a great relaxing ride.  Just brisk enough for a jacket.  The wind was blowing through the mountains and the Aspen leaves were turning with the wind.  The opposing colors of the top and bottom of an Aspen leaf reminded me of the old lamps with the plastic “leafs” hanging down ( like in a cheap bar in the Philipines not that I have ever been into one.  My Navy buddies told me about them)  I stopped in Bunea Vista, CO at the Coyote Cantina.  All I can if you are ever by, stop in!

After lunch more riding to South Fork.  What a jewel I found there at the Foothill Cabins and Lodge!  For $56 A brand new king size, log bed! The place was spotless!  Spent the night and ran next door for dinner and a beer!
Saturday…..
Got up early and headed for my destination of Dodge City, KS and a date with MS Kitty.  That ride included a stop at the Bishop Castle close to Pueblo, CO.  Again, if you are ever in the area…STOP!  Mr Bishop is not fond of the US Govt!  He has built this castle starting in 1968 completely by HIMSELF!  All the stone work, medal work, the whole nine yards.  I was lucky, he was there working when I stopped in:

MR. BISHOP/CASTLE BUILDER
You have to realize, ONE MAN did all of this by himself!
Ever SINGLE stone, he laid!  All the metal work, he did!

OK, sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time!
(I bet I don’t have to remind the men to click to enlarge now)
I need my own castle!
Google “Bishop Castle, CO” and get the full story on this incredible man!
Had to divert around some hwy construction that added about another 120 miles to my ride. Got to Dodge City after about a 700 mile day and called it quits!

Sunday:
Got up, and did the touristy thing.  Quite a fun little town.  I have always wanted to stop so I can check that one off now:

Her actual grave at Boot Hill!
OK, partners…time has come to mount the steel steed and ride off into the sunset!  After Boot Hill I rode about 400 miles to Wichita Falls, TX.  Tomorrow I have a short ride of about 125 miles to Mansfield, TX (just south of Ft Worth, to spend the night with an old AF friend, Greg Kunasek.  He is a pilot for American Airlines.  It will be the first time his four kids have met Uncle Buck!
Tuesday I will pull out for Vicksburg, MS.  I was hoping my old friend and mentor Herb Bright was riding over from AL to ride with me up the Natchez Trace Trail to Nashville.  That old nasty thing called work has hindered that.
One last thing……….HB BR 101..It stands for HOUSE BILL BOB & RICK 101!
One thing that I have really learned to cherish the older I get….is friends that think like I do, or I do like they!  Yes Walt, I am not the only one who ONLY watches FOX NEWS (Fair and Balanced Reporting)  So does my buddy Bob…..As we sat there discussing just how screwed up the current administration (and I mean both Dems & Reps) Bob came up with an excellent idea, and I seconded it!  At that point it officialy became HB BR 101!  We have decided that unless you PAY TAXES…YOU NO LONGER GET TO VOTE!  (excluding disabled Vets)  Since 51% of the population does not even pay taxes, why the hell should they get to vote for someone who wants to raise mine so they can suck off of welfare even more!  Man Law is now in effect!
Until next time…..

Until we meet again, may the good Lord take a liking to you.
