5 HRS IN ER/500 MILES, 110 OR BOWL OF CEREAL

Day 2……..Where do I begin?  We left KY at 0630 HRS.  Weather felt pretty good, sunshine and everyone was in one PIECE!

Things were gonig great and the heat quickly started climbing by 0930 HRS.  Was having just a wonderful ride…..and then it happened.  Unfortunately my good friend Tommy decided he wanted to meet a stunning, blue eye, raven hair nurse named Linda in Salem, MO.

We were motoring along at the LEGAL speed limit just having a great time through the Mark Twain National Forest when all of the sudden some liberal rocks/gravel appeared in a cornor of the road.  Unfortunately Tommy caught it just right or just wrong….down went Tommy.  I looked in my review mirror to make sure everyone was behind me in time to see the slide into home plate begin.  Even though I am trying to make light of this….it was a serious accident.  Lucky for everyone MO is a helmet state and hardheaded Tommy was wearing his.

Almost 40 stitches later by Nurse Linda….and five hours in the ER we were on our way.  Unfortunately in seperate directions.  Elvis and I left for Kansas City.  Tommy and his bike…were headed to STL (we thought).  I had arranged for Tommy to fly home on my buddy passes to Columbia, SC.  And this point the story gets really weird…..a different wrecker picks him up and takes him to Springfield, MO and not St Louis!

Elvis and I finally arrived into Kansas City around 2030 HRS.  Tommy is flying out of Springfield tomorrow back to Columbia.  I hate he is not going to make the trip.  He was the first to sigh up.  Bottom line though, I am glad he is just a little sore and a few stitches!  It could have been a ton worst had he not been wearing a helmet!

I would like to say a big thanks to the MO State HP, and the Salem Hospital ER to Dr. Walker and especially Nurse Linda.  You could not have asked for better treatment and actually treated you like you were human!

So…Five hours in the ER followed by another 500 miles on the bike.  Only to be told in Clinton, MO that we picked a good time to ride through.  They had just set a record of 110 DEGREES today!  It felt like a furnace.  The bowl of cereal….I thought I had seen it all.  On the way out of KY, we passed a  young girl….on her cell phone, putting make up, AND EATING A BOWL OF CEREAL!

Until tomorrow…wish us safe travels and Tommy a speedy recover.
